A run for my money

3 year old boys are hard. Right? Somebody back me up. We love our shaggy headed scrapper no doubt but sometimes.........He told me today at lunch, "Mom you don't have to yell. Just talk nice and I will listen." Oh really, I thought to myself, cause I tried that 5 times already and it didn't really seem to work.

........................

This week is community helpers week at school each day a different community helper comes in to talk to the class. On Monday Fin had a visit from the firefighters. They taught her all sorts of fire safety and let her check out the fire truck. Well after school I picked her up and we headed down to the rec center to sign them up for soccer. On the way we had to stop at a red light and standing at the corner was a woman smoking a cigarette. I noticed that Fin was watching the woman quite intently so I decided I had better talk to her about smoking. This is how it went.

Me: Did you see that woman standing at the corner.

Her: Yes I did.

Did you see what she was doing?

Yep, Her had smoke coming out of her mouth. I should yell to her: STOP, DROP and ROLL.

Me: Trying not to laugh sooooo hard. Couldn't finish conversation.

Tuesday she had a visit from the Sheriff and she learned that if there is an emergency that she should call 991. Yes, I told her that is was 911 but she convinced I'm wrong. Lets just hope there are no emergencies.

Wednesday she met with a Doctor and 2 Dental Flosses. Dentists I asked. No mom they are called Dental Flosses. I know mom. I know.....

Star of the week

Last month our girl was the Star of the Week at preschool. She picked out some of her favorite photos from this year and we set to work. Here is some of what we came up with. She covered every inch of her white poster board with paint, glitter, jewels, stickers, and little self portraits. She is my favorite little girl in the world!

Winter

spur of the moment sundance film festival- park city
awesome night with mom and sis
delicious steak & fish tacos
movie: the mill and the cross - very experimental

I am freezing here. Anybody else. AAHHHH! I was talking to a friend on the phone yesterday. We were talking about wintertime, and bitter cold, gray skies, runny noses and what do you do to pass the time. And where do you get the energy you need to do that thing that will keep you sane. And how do you do it with little kids. We went on and on and then I said this,

You have to create your own amazing.

I said that? I think I'm gonna do it. Good times here we come.

Today:
Pancakes 'n berry smoothies
ballet
preschool
and then.....back to school for me
That's right found a babysitter and I'm gonna learn me somethin' new!
So excited to shovel myself out of my wintertime blues...

Halloween

Yes we apparently are already talking about next years Halloween. Fin woke up this morning and said that next year she wanted to be a pearl. Like the ones that you find at the bottom of the ocean inside of an oyster or something. She has been talking about what she wants to be next year ever since Halloween this year.

We LOVE october around here. It's one of the best times of the year. What's not to love. The weather is crisp but still nice enough to have friends over for dessert and apple cider around the bonfire. There are hay rides, and pumpkin patches, caramel apples and Halloween parties, costumes and candy.

Here are some of the costume choices from this year. They couldn't decide so every day they just picked something new out of the treasure chest.

Goldilocks
finley wanted to be goldilocks because their hair matches. she wanted an apron designed to hold her little bears

"Plastic" Girl- I don't know why she calls it that And Spidey
for her dance class she said she needed to wear a costume with a cape so she could fly around when she danced. luckily we had this costume from last year.

Snow White and the Knight

spooky hay ride at the farm. the kids weren't too sure about our guide. they kept asking me, "what is he going to do to us".

Monkey

June 2010

The night before the incident, Chad said to me, "I think maybe it's time we change his crib into a bed. He's gonna end up falling out of it and will break his neck." Of course you know what my response was to that.

The very next morning he jumped out of his crib and broke his arm. Now this monkey sleeps in a bed.

Eat Healthy-er

Burgers have become a thing of the past. For anyone who knows my husband that is a miraculous statement in and of itself. Since Chad's unfortunate landslide of hospital visits we have re-committed to eating a little bit better. We grew our first garden ever (it was rough). This is the best it ever looked.

(Cinderella, her Knight (BF), and pesky little brother harvesting/scavenging for dinner)

We blame our gardens awfulness on bad soil. I did get a lot of great gardening tips off you tube. Speaking of GREAT internet clips here is the funniest rendition of Chad's 911 call I have ever seen. It is his experience to a T. When Chad got hit with pancreatitis he was home alone. The kids and I were out of town and it was early on a Sunday morning. He was in so much pain he couldn't drive himself to the hospital so he call 911 and told them he would leave the door unlocked, the dog was friendly, and that they could find him passed out on the couch. Poor guy. Earlier that month he drove himself into the hospital at 4:00 in the morning when he had a gallbladder attack (he had it removed that afternoon). See why we grew the garden.

7 year itch

(disclaimer: we really do love each other)

End O' May

You can tell you've hit 7 years if you cancel your anniversary and tried to sell your wedding ring all on the same day. Chad thinks I'm crazy. I told him that I no longer want to celebrate the anniversary of our marriage but would rather celebrate the anniversary of when we first met. Those were some seriously happy times. Maybe I am nuts. Whatever. Happy 7th dear.

(we took the kids to holladay elementary to show them where it all began.
it's where we met 22 years ago in the 5th grade)

Happy Birthday

(4th birthday)

This year it was a little touch and go for her birthday. For starters her pop was in the hospital recovering from pancreatitis (sorry no pics). Her birthday was planned for Saturday and his release date from the hospital was Friday. I wasn't sure how 14 little 4 year olds running around the house was going to go over. But he told me not to cancel. What a dad!

Saturday morning when she woke up she puked all over the wood floors and I made 14 phone calls and moved the party to Monday. After a quite weekend passed we woke Monday morning to 3 inches of freshly fallen snow! At the end of MAY give me a break.

Not sure what we were gonna do since we had planned a Mermaid and Pirate party for the back yard. We crossed our fingers and went to work. Six hours later we had a house full of very happy 4 year olds and 2 completely exhausted out adults.

(party prep team)

(she was very specific about having a little mermaid cake. thanks to her grandma it actually looked like one.)

(the treasure hunt)

(they fished for clues in the deep blue sea)

(scavanged for "gold"- chocolate coins and "jewels" -ring pops at pirates island)

(the clues lead them to a hidden pirates chest filled with pirates booty popcorn,
sandy candy- huge hit, and all of the birthday gifts)

The kids ate pizza and capri suns on beach towels that we laid out in the mermaid lagoon. Needless to say the party was a huge hit, and the great part about it is, I can reuse the decorations for our boys party in December! Happy Birthday Darling.
